Biological agriculture at the Ficareto
Arboreal plantations:

wine grapes vineyard for the production of typical wines with a registered designation of origin;
vineyard with 11 selections of Sangiovese varieties for the production of d.o.c. (registered designation of origin) Chianti wine; the buds of these vines, after being conveniently prepared, are given to nurserymen that use them to grow rooted vines of high genealogy and health;
table grapes vineyard (arbour with 22 different grape varieties);
production of viticultural propagation material made of rootstock mother trees;
an olive grove partially apportioned on terraces completes the panorama of the Ficareto and allows us to produce Tuscan varieties of olives and a high quality oil, extremely appreciated by consumers because of its its “fruity” taste and its perfect matching with the most delicate dishes.
fruit trees orchard (apricot-, cherry-, apple-, pear-, peach-, plum- and fig-trees).
Cereals:

soft wheat and maize.
Forage crops:
lucerne, field bean for grains and green manuring.
Vegetable crops:
watermelons, early and winter melons, sauce and table tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, cucumbers, zucchini (marrows), garlic, onions, potatoes and winter pumpkins.
The farming business also has an artesian well from where it gets water supply for agricultural and domestic use.

All arboreal plantations have a drip irrigation system. The vegetable crops are mulched to limit weed growth, while irrigation is carried out through hoses with drip courses placed close to the plants. Lucerne and maize are irrigated on a weekly basis, using a self-propelled travelling sprinkler. The wide range of products allows us to have a straight contact with our customers by selling directly at the farm. Our goal is that of achieving a short food chain, minimizing the heavy commercial intermediation each product goes through before reaching the end consumer.
